Use Registered Massage Therapy, it’s in your best interest!
Massage therapy is a comprehensive intervention involving a range of techniques to manipulate the soft tissues and joints of the body. According to the Massage Therapy Act, 1991, the purpose of massage therapy is to prevent, develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function or relieve pain. It is a clinically-oriented health option that achieves undeniable results in the relief of an array of discomforts stemming from stress, muscular overuse and many chronic pain syndromes.
In Canada, massage therapy is a widely accepted form of manual therapy. In Ontario, it is estimated that 35% of the population has used massage therapy in the past two years (Report on the massage therapy census 2003 – general public survey). Your Registered Massage Therapist will be dedicated to helping you reach your specific health care goals, and will formulate a treatment plan to help get you back to living your pain free life.
Traditional Massage Therapy (or General Swedish Massage) involves compression, stretching, kneading of soft tissues, and gentle mobilization of the joints, often with a relaxation-oriented focus. Therapeutic Massage uses the techniques listed above, but may include sub-modalities of massage therapy such as muscle energy, myofascial release, contract-relax stretching, trigger-point release, cranio-sacral therapy, and remedial exercise/stretching instructions for home care.
